The third report of the Fact-Finding Mission affiliated with OPCW in Syria

The Fact-Finding Mission  (FFM) affiliated with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) published a report on December 18, 2014, No. (S/1230/2014) providing a more detailed description of its work in the second phase after presenting the results of their visit to Syria.

The Mission’s team published its first report on June 16, 2014, discussing the mechanisms and conditions of the Mission’s work as its first field mission in Syria. Then, they released their second report on September 10, 2014, which outlined the “Key Findings” of their visit to Syria.

The previous two reports concluded that all the evidence “constitutes compelling confirmation” of the systematic and repeated use of a toxic chemical substance as a weapon in Syria, with “chlorine” being the relevant toxic substance.

The third report highlighted the investigation methods used by the Mission’s team, detailing the interviews with eyewitnesses, victims’ families, and incident narratives. It also presented various types of supporting documents and data obtained during their visit.

The report (document number S/1230/2014) addressed the challenges faced by the Mission during the investigation, discussed the methodology used in the investigation, and provided a list of collected materials.
