How the Assad Regime Prepared to Use Chemical Weapons?

Western countries had information and indicators about the Syrian regime’s imminent use of chemical weapons against Syrians in 2012.

Intelligence reports reached the United States regarding the Syrian regime’s transfer of chemical weapons. Meanwhile, a spokesperson from the Syrian Foreign Ministry confirmed that chemical weapons would not be used against civilians, stating that their weapons were “secured and stored” by the Syrian army. This statement was the first confirmation by the regime of its chemical stockpile, following long denials.

At that time, military analyses indicated that the Syrian regime was “rapidly” collapsing, before it eventually used chemical weapons in its attacks.
