A widely circulated image allegedly shows a young Syrian girl, a survivor of the chemical massacre in Douma

An image shared on social media depicts a girl putting a breathing device on an infant, claiming that the children are victims of the war in Gaza. However, it has been confirmed that the image is old and shows a Syrian girl who survived a chemical attack.

 

Social media users have been sharing this image, suggesting it shows a small girl helping her baby sister by putting a breathing device on her face, claiming that the two children are victims of the war in Gaza.

 

 /></p><p>Upon verification, it was found that the image is not related to this conflict but rather shows two Syrian children. The photo was taken by AFP photographer Hassan Mohammad in a field hospital after the chemical attack by regime forces on the city of Douma in Eastern Ghouta, Rural Damascus, on January 22, 2018.</p><p> </p><p>At the time, AFP reported that the attack resulted in at least 21 people suffering from suffocation due to inhaling toxic chlorine gas.</p><p> </p><p>It is worth noting that the recently circulated image is well-known among Syrians and is considered a symbolic representation of the victims of chemical weapons in Syria.</p><p> </p><p>The Chemical Violations Documentation Center of Syria (CVDCS) has documented over 262 chemical attacks in Syria, resulting in 3,423 deaths and 13,947 injuries.
